As an investigative reporter, my work has exposed wrongdoing, shuttered companies, changed laws and helped bring justice to communities. I’ve covered business and politics from California to Central Europe. Here’s a sampling of my work:

Sierra Vista InvestigationUncovered how one of California’s fastest-growing hospitals put profits over care for decades – with few consequences. Led local VA chapter to stop sending patients there. State lawmakers called a hearing to demand better staffing.

DreamLife Financial Investigation – Award-winning investigative series exposed criminal wrongdoing by California mortgage executive-turned-philanthropist. Reporting forced local institutions to return donations, spurred closure of company, sent CEO to prison and led then-Gov. Schwarzenegger to sign new law against predatory lending.

Modesto Tallow Investigation – Revealed how an agricultural powerhouse in California’s Central Valley racked up one of the worst environmental records in the state — and the strategies the company used to avoid penalties for decades. Reporting led to the ultimate closure of the rendering factory, which operated for more than 80 years.

Move America Forward Investigation – Documented how a California-based charity pushed the limits of IRS regulations to get out its pro-military message.

Obama Arrives on Global Stage – In Prague, I covered international economics and diplomacy for Czech Business Weekly magazine. This story focused on the politics of Obama’s first international visit as President, and his speech on nuclear non-proliferation.

The Laos ConnectionInvestigated explosive allegations that a group of California activists was plotting an international conspiracy to overthrow the government of Laos. My reporting focused on the group’s financial backing, and raised questions about their capacity to pull off such an action — months before the government dropped its case.

Lumbering to Uncertainty – What’s a company town without the company? My reporting for The Bee took me to Humboldt County, where the community of Scotia was on edge as Pacific Lumber navigated a debilitating bankruptcy.

Breaking News

California Wildfires – On the scene as one of the deadliest wildfires in California history engulfs entire communities.

State of Hunger – Special broadcast report for KVAL-TV on how Oregon ended up with the dubious distinction of being the worst state in the nation for child hunger.
